Playing with a Full Deck

For those of you closely following The Ferrule, you will know we have been taking advantage of rainy days to pressure wash and clean upcoming projects.

This particular entry covers a recent deck job that exceeded our expectations.  After cleaning the deck, checking for proper moisture content and a final sweep we were ready for a coat of exterior varnish.

We did two coats on this deck within 48 hours. This promotes proper adhesion between coating layers and the second coat provides a more uniform finish. 

This is the first time we have used this particular product from Flood  . This product went on more like a latex polyurethane and leveled like an oil.  It also helped provide a more uniform tone for all the boards.  To say we are happy with the results is an understatement.

The varnish helped unify the grain and color of this decking. Two coats make the wood look even better than we expected.

Using a product from Flood  we applied the two coat product within 48 hours to ensure an excellent bond and long lasting performance.

Washing the Deck

Opening the wood grain and removing the leaves and debris between the boards is essential.
