How Many Sides to a Piece of Wood?

Our clients were replacing their windows, doors and siding. We received the stock for the whole house just after it was milled.

Controlling moisture is the key to success when protecting wood outside.  Coatings can't bond to the sharp edges of freshly prepared lumber so we like to start with easing those followed by sanding the final sides.

After the sanding dust has been removed two coats of white pigmented shellac are applied to all the knots and obvious areas where sap may liquify. We then prime all six sides with an oil-based primer.

The last step is to sand once more and apply one finish coat of paint. Once installed we can caulk all of the joints and apply a final coat of paint to complete.

By treating wood before it is installed we can provide a better looking longer lasting coating.
